We started harvest with a sort of "practice" on Sept. 20, when about three tons of Rhone varietals from the
Columbia Valley of Washington arrived for sister winery Ribera.
While we prepared for the usual onslaught of pinot
noir, pinot blanc and pinot gris, we had sweet-smelling fermenters of grenache, counoise, and a mourvedre-syrah-grenache blend
perking quietly in a corner.
On Sept. 23, we added two pressloads of syrah and one of mourvedre for a rose
blend.
On Sept. 28, three tons of pinot gris from a very young block at Walnut Ridge Vineyard arrived.
And
on Oct. 7, pinot noir started to check in, with about 4.5 tons from three different blocks from Walnut Ridge Vineyard.
